Apple Valley candidates should address cell tower issue
The sitting Apple Valley Town Council members have voted to erect 5G cell towers in our parks and on school grounds with zero resident support.
Here is what the experts state:
1) Harvard Medical School stated EMF/RFR from cell towers can exert a disorganizing effect on the ability to learn and remember. It can be destabilizing to immune and metabolic function. Powerful industrial entities have a vested interest in leading the public to believe EMF/RFR which we cannot see, touch, or taste is harmless, but this is not true.
2) American Academy of Environmental Medicine stated adverse health effects from wireless radio frequency fields such as learning disabilities, altered immune response, and headaches clearly exist and are well documented in the scientific literature.
3) The World Health Organization has elevated exposure to wireless radiation to a Class 2b list of carcinogens.
4) The International Firemen’s Association has banned placement of cell towers from their locations after several firemen had medical problems.
5) The Los Angeles School Board has banned cell tower placements on or near their parks or schools.
When I asked The Apple Valley Town Council why our children are not as valuable, there was no response. Carol Miller of the Planning Department stated cell tower placement should be at least 1,000 feet away from schools. She then proceeded to grant Verizon a 50 percent deviation to that. Because the cell tower placement at Mendel Park would be less than that, she granted a second deviation. Mariana Elementary School is less than 500 feet from a cell tower placement site. The workout station and playground equipment are less than 100 feet from cell tower siting. The universal precautionary standard of placement for cell towers is 1,500 feet away from schools and parks.
According to Carol Miller if 1,000 feet is desirable, 500 feet would be less desired, and anything under that would not be desirable at all. The vote should have been NO.
Karen Mendel, the daughter of the family who donated the land for Mariana School and park, sent an email to the Apple Valley Town Council opposing this Verizon 5G tower placement inside Mendel Park. The Council’s response was “we have checked the deed and can proceed.” A Verizon representative stated parents are not concerned with children’s safety, all they want to know is if their devices will work.” I called the Apple Valley Town Attorney, and was told it would be a conflict of interest for him to discuss the matter with me. Who pays his salary?
Why are these cell towers being erected? Financial gain. Mariana Elementary School is on a two lane street, Manhassett Road. Every morning and afternoon this street is heavily congested with parents dropping off and picking up children. This Verizon 5G tower placement inside Mendel Park will bring more traffic, accidents, and crime to this area. Apple Valley has an excellent police and Fire Department, why make their jobs more difficult? Without even considering the emissions from the tower there are multiple safety issues with this placement.
Mendel Park is also used as a emergency air lift site. Baseball, football, and soccer teams also use the field where the 5G cell tower is to be placed. We have high winds and icy conditions during the winter. It is a very real possibility ice or paint chips from the tower will be blown onto school and park grounds where children can come into direct contact with them.
I would like for all the new Town Council candidates to speak on this matter. If you are running for re-election, your vote to place these towers already speaks for you.
