Tonight; Montgomery County Council Hearing on Zoning That Would Bring Mini Cell Towers To Front Yards

Tonight: Scientists  and Community Leaders To Oppose New Zoning Code Which Allows Cell Tower Antennas/Towers throughout Montgomery County

Expansion Comes Days After NIH  Review Panel Confirms “Clear Evidence” of Cancer Link

This evening the full Montgomery County Council will hold a hearing tonight on a new draft zoning ordinance (ZTA 18-02 Telecommunications Towers – Limited Use) which would strip away zoning laws that currently prevent antennas from being placed on utility poles and lampposts close to homes. The ordinance would pave the way for  cell towers and antennas throughout Montgomery County in commercial/residential areas like Silver Spring and down town Bethesda. The ordinance would also take away a requirement to notify the public when industry applications are filed to place antennas on utility poles and light poles in residential neighborhoods.

“The latest science finds “clear evidence” linking the radiation coming from cell towers and cell phones to cancer. Just last week the review board of the National Toxicology Program voted that the tumors found in the heart and brains of animals exposed to this radiation were evidence of carcinogenicity” said Theodora Scarato, Executive Director of Environmental Health Trust who pointed to the Ramazzini Institute study which also found the same cancer types in an animal study using very very low levels of this radiation.

“The latest evidence conclusively confirms that radiofrequency radiation is a Category 1 human carcinogen” said Anthony Miller MD, Professor Emeritus, Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto.
